The Peace Sign is a special artwork that comes from a deep wish to understand one important word: Salam. This word is Arabic for “peace,” and it means a lot more than just a greeting. It’s a blessing and a big idea about how we can live together in harmony. When I created this artwork, I wanted to show how beautiful the word is and what it really stands for: safety, friendship, and coming together.
The Peace Sign is designed in a rectangular shape, intended to be suspended from a metal chain. It features a black fabric background, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. The word “Salam” is written in fancy, textured vinyl, which makes you want to look closely at all the details. Below it, the word “Peace” is written in English, helping to connect different cultures through language. Above and beside “Salam,” you can see the Arabic letters in shiny gold foil, which makes them stand out beautifully. There are also horizontal gold stripes painted around the edges, adding a bright touch and drawing your eyes to the artwork.
Every material used in this artwork was picked for a reason. The fabric gives it warmth and depth, while the shiny foil and textured vinyl add some cool effects with light. The metal chain gives it a special weight, almost like it’s a treasure. To make sure the colors and textures last a long time, everything is covered with a protective resin, just like how the message of peace should last forever.
Salam is more than just a word; it represents a hope for calmness inside ourselves and fairness in the world. It reminds us that peace comes from forgiving others, understanding each other, and working together. This artwork encourages everyone to think about how peace can grow within us and spread out into the world.
Making the Peace Sign was a chance to think about these ideas, not just in my mind but also through my hands. I layered different materials and balanced the writing and symbols. It shows that peace can be delicate but is also strong and full of meaning.
This artwork is an invitation for everyone: to think, speak, and act with peace in mind; to see the common desire for peace that we all share; and to think about how art and language can connect us across different cultures and experiences. In a world where peace sometimes feels far away, the Peace Sign gives us a moment to stop, think, and remember the powerful message of Salam.
